Loving Greta’s bla bla bla speech

Don’t Die

Image
Every day on the caminos of Spain, people die. And so, sadly, it came to pass for a young Brazilian medical student Senda de la Lola who fell on her first day out of Ponferrada and split her head all over the path. She was due to begin an internship helping poor children in the ghettos of Peru but fate intervened. Her parents said it was her wish to be buried in Spain but I found this strange and am engaged in correspondence with them on this point. Young people rarely spell out their desired resting place.  I am also trying to verify the Peru thing. It’s what Senda would have wanted.

There was no Apple!

Many of you will know that Newton summered in Ponferrada as was the fashion at the time.  While there he continued  his experiments on gravity using local feral cats thrown from the North turret (see picture below). Using data from these cat drops  he estimated gravity at 9.6 m/s.  Cats aren’t very popular in the town as they are blamed for his inaccurate estimate, gravity being 9.8 m/s. Apparently some cats landed on their front paws and some on their back and this threw out all his averages.  The local dogs at the time were encouraged to chase all cats away as a result (or tear them limb from limb).  They still commemorate  Newton’s work here by throwing plastic cats off the turrets dripped in tuna paste and let the local dogs go crazy. It’s in the DNA experts think.  The whole apple falling onto his head was baloney.

Special Ops

Seeing the large Expeditors office at Dublin Airport, and bearing in mind the hassle that a certain soon to retire Customs person has caused everyone over the years would it be wrong to, how shall I put this, relocate her to Kabul? I think it would be a nice change of scene for her and I think she’d make friends very easily…..

Bastards

They took my money and then changed the time on my outbound flight and pushed out by one day my return flight. And this is ok?  As a result early morning drive to Dublin, very early. Like I was on Dunkettel Roundabout at 430am, bitter. I got to long term parking at 650 and was in terminal at 715. Flight, 11am, bitter.

Bob wonders what he did wrong

Image
As we got nearer the kennels Bob started to recognise the terrain. This started the anguished whimpering. He pleaded with me but I knew I had to be strong. Given everything that was happening in the World I knew the “Suffer in Silence” Camino couldn’t wait any longer. My followers demanded that I walk.  “Dems’s the breaks” I said to him as I drove away. He seemed non-plussed in the end.
